The Bank of Latvia called the gingerbread heart the queen of all gingerbread, and in 2011 it issued a 1 lats on which the numeral of value sits right on the heart.
The reverse shows a gingerbread heart bearing the numeral 1, with «LATS» in a semicircle below. The obverse carries the large coat of arms of the Republic of Latvia with the date 2011 and the legends «LATVIJAS» and «REPUBLIKA». The authors are Rūta Briede and Laura Medne.
In Latvia a gingerbread heart is given in thanks for good work or support, it decorates a celebration, and when home-baked it becomes an expression of creative inspiration, without being tied to any single season.
It is a warm gift with meaning and a notable piece for collections on festivals and national traditions. Uncirculated grade: the coin never circulated, has no wear and keeps its mint lustre; only minor bag marks are acceptable.
VPcoins is an online shop of coins and banknotes where a collector can find both the missing pieces and new directions for a collection.
